Väsynyt ihminen
rentoutuu kotona töllöä katsellen. Ikävää, ettei sieltä vaan tule mitään, kuin vasta klo 21.
Järkytyin juuri, kun jouduin todistamaan hirveää juustomainosta. Tiedätte varmaan. Sen jossa blondi syö juustoa ja ääntelee kuin aikuisten elokuvassa konsanaan. Loppujärkytyksenä karmea peruukkipäinen eunukki avaa suunsa. Huh. Mikähän mainostoimisto tuosta mainoksesta vastaa?
Viikko on ollut äärimmäisen tiukka. Eilen tunnilla, tänään tentissä. Yhden ison esseen palautus, yhden ryhmätyön palautus. Kvantitatiivisten tehtävän palautus siirtyi onneksi ensi viikkoon! Olisin muuten vääntänyt sitä tänään ja huomenna. Edellisestä tehtävästä sain 5. En siis sittenkään jätä kurssia kesken. Aika moni on kuulemma keskeyttänyt. Keskeytys prosentti on kuulemma ollut 30%. Siis iltaopiskelijoilla.
On tosi väsynyt olo. Viikonloppuna voisi kerrankin rentoutua. Ensi viikolla synttärit tiedossa ja pääsiäinen. Kivaa!
Tiedän jo mitä saan Christianilta lahjaksi. Ne on kukkia, mutta ne ei tuoksu. ;0)

Studying, studying..
This weekend I've been mostly studying.
Yesterday we were though at this tattoo convention from which Chris wrote about earlier. He forgot to mention the best thing that happened there. We were already leaving and wondered why Ika and Juuso where not following us so we went back and Juuso told us that the Scandinavian Tattoo Magazine wanted to take photos from Ika. She is probably going to be on the cover! So, maybe it was all worth of 18 Euros. After the convention we had dinner at Seahorse and few beers in down town. We had a fun evening.
Today I have been studying and the next week is going to be a very very busy week. I have one exam and few assignments to do. I also have lessons on Wednesday. Today I wrote one essay and did one assignment. I didn't finish them but I got lot done and that always helps.
Now it's time to relax with a book and after that I'll go to bed.

The International Helsinki Tattoo Convention 2008 by Chris
The Tattoo "convention" was to be the happening of the year, well ok, maybe not that special but I think we all had positive and high expectations. After all it was 18 Euros to get in + then another 2 Euros for your jacket.
On a side not, I have never quite understood that jacket fee. It's silly. I have been to places before that, even if you don't actually have a jacket, you still
have to pay 2-3 Euro's for your make believe jacket! Just a money scam!
Anyhow, myself, Eveliina, Ika and Juuso arrived at Kaapelitehdas just after 4 pm on Saturday. After about 15 mins of browsing around I thought, "there must be some more rooms here to check out, it can't all just be in this one tiny room or can it?"
Well, it could! It was like visiting a flea market, only a flea market is more fun. The only thing you could really hear was the buzzing of tattoo ink machines piercing the flesh of beer drinking-sweaty people.
They had some merchandise for sale, like punk shirts, hats, pins and whatnot, stuff that you could find in several places directly under Rautatientori. But here you had to pay 18 Euro to get to see it.
Everyone in our party sorta had the feeling that "what am I doing here and please lets just go somewhere and eat!".
Well, in 2009 we'll all be wiser and won't be attending. I have also left the 2008 tattoo convention page on Facebook. I'm no longer a member there!

International Women's Day
International Women's Day (8 March) is an occasion marked by women's groups around the world. This date is also commemorated at the United Nations and is designated in many countries as a national holiday. When women on all continents, often divided by national boundaries and by ethnic, linguistic, cultural, economic and political differences, come together to celebrate their Day, they can look back to a tradition that represents at least nine decades of struggle for equality, justice, peace and development.
International Women's Day is the story of ordinary women as makers of history; it is rooted in the centuries-old struggle of women to participate in society on an equal footing with men. In ancient Greece, Lysistrata initiated a sexual strike against men in order to end war; during the French Revolution, Parisian women calling for "liberty, equality, fraternity" marched on Versailles to demand women's suffrage.
The idea of an International Women's Day first arose at the turn of the century, which in the industrialized world was a period of expansion and turbulence, booming population growth and radical ideologies. Following is a brief chronology of the most important events:

In accordance with a declaration by the Socialist Party of America, the first National Woman's Day was observed across the United States on 28 February. Women continued to celebrate it on the last Sunday of that month through 1913.
1910
The Socialist International, meeting in Copenhagen, established a Women's Day, international in character, to honour the movement for women's rights and to assist in achieving universal suffrage for women. The proposal was greeted with unanimous approval by the conference of over 100 women from 17 countries, which included the first three women elected to the Finnish parliament. No fixed date was selected for the observance.
1911
As a result of the decision taken at Copenhagen the previous year, International Women's Day was marked for the first time (19 March) in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland, where more than one million women and men attended rallies. In addition to the right to vote and to hold public office, they demanded the right to work, to vocational training and to an end to discrimination on the job.
Less than a week later, on 25 March, the tragic Triangle Fire in New York City took the lives of more than 140 working girls, most of them Italian and Jewish immigrants. This event had a significant impact on labour legislation in the United States, and the working conditions leading up to the disaster were invoked during subsequent observances of International Women's Day.
1913-1914
As part of the peace movement brewing on the eve of World War I, Russian women observed their first International Women's Day on the last Sunday in February 1913. Elsewhere in Europe, on or around 8 March of the following year, women held rallies either to protest the war or to express solidarity with their sisters.
1917
With 2 million Russian soldiers dead in the war, Russian women again chose the last Sunday in February to strike for "bread and peace". Political leaders opposed the timing of the strike, but the women went on anyway. The rest is history: Four days later the Czar was forced to abdicate and the provisional Government granted women the right to vote. That historic Sunday fell on 23 February on the Julian calendar then in use in Russia, but on 8 March on the Gregorian calendar in use elsewhere.
Since those early years, International Women's Day has assumed a new global dimension for women in developed and developing countries alike. The growing international women's movement, which has been strengthened by four global United Nations women's conferences, has helped make the commemoration a rallying point for coordinated efforts to demand women's rights and participation in the political and economic process. Increasingly, International Women's Day is a time to reflect on progress made, to call for change and to celebrate acts of courage and determination by ordinary women who have played an extraordinary role in the history of women's rights.

Over the years, United Nations action for the advancement of women has taken four clear directions: promotion of legal measures; mobilization of public opinion and international action; training and research, including the compilation of gender desegregated statistics; and direct assistance to disadvantaged groups. Today a central organizing principle of the work of the United Nations is that no enduring solution to society's most threatening social, economic and political problems can be found without the full participation, and the full empowerment, of the world's women.

Nyt oli pakko kirjoittaa, kun en ole taas vähään aikaan antanut kuulua itsestäni. Ei ole hirveästi ollut fiilistä tänne kirjoittaa, kun illat menee esseitä "raapustaessa" eikä runosuoni semmoisen pusertamisen jälkeen enää syki. Tänään sain yhden esseen taas valmiiksi ja huomenna alan jo tehdä seuraavaa ts. tutustun aineistoon, joka käsittää kuutisen kirjaa. No ei niitä tarvitse kannesta kanteen sentään lukea.
Loppuviikon ohjelma on siis tiivistä ja intensiivistä opiskelua, tatska messut lauantaina, mahdollisesti sen lisäksi keilaamista tms. iloista ajanvietettä. Saa nyt nähdä.
C:n vanhemmat tulevat yöllä Thaimaasta, missä ovat viimeiset kaksi kuukautta nauttineet kesästä ja auringosta.

Chilling at home
The weekend is coming to it's end. I'm enjoying the last hours by chilling at home. Today I wrote an essay, did some exercising with our bike and after that some yoga stretching.
We woke up already at 4 this morning. Our upstairs neighbor was making love with some new guy. According to the noise she made the guy must have been quite a stallion. It took over two hours to get back to sleep and you can imagine, we weren't too happy about that. I wonder what her grandmother thinks. She lives on the other side of the wall. If we woke up I bet she did as well.
Then in the morning just before ten. I thought it would be a great idea to hear some music and I turned the volume up and listened those great bass lines. Me and Chris enjoyed it and I hope our neighbor did as well. Maybe now she remembers how thin the walls really are. The problem is I think that we are way too quiet.
Today is Sirpa's birthday. She is in Greece at the moment. Happy birthday Sirpa!
In the next week I have to write two essays. The society and politics in East and Southeast Asia -course will start tomorrow. On Saturday we are going to the Helsinki International Tattoo Convention 2008. Busy week ahead again.

Eläinlääkäriä ja kvantitatiivista tehtävää
Alkaa olla nukkumaan meno aika.
Tämän päivän koittelemus eli eläinlääkäri on nyt takana ja kaikki karvaiset pallerot käyttäytyivät hyvin. Piki taisi jännittää eniten. Kisu ei ollenkaan. Se puski, kehräsi ja nuoli eläinlääkärin kättä. Rokotusta ne eivät huomanneet. Pörrin toinen pupilli on isompi, kuin toinen se lienee yhteydessä kohtauksiin eli kaikki Pörrin aivoissa ei ole ihan kunnossa. Siltä pitäisi ottaa verikoe, jossa katsottaisiin epilepsialääkkeen määrä veressä eli tarvitseeko sen saada enemmän lääkettä. Kohtauksia tulee edelleen ja ne ovat rankkoja. Viime kesänähän se oli koko kesän ilman kohtauksia. Se on omituista. Eläinlääkärin mukaan Pörrin kohtaukset ovat omituisia ja sen käytös myös. Se ylireagoi kaikkeen.

Aika on kortilla tällä hetkellä ja mieluummin panostan sitten niihin aineisiin joista on mahdollista saada hyviä arvosanoja ja päästä kokeesta läpi. Saattaa olla, että olen jo pudonnut kärryiltä tämän osalta, siinä tapauksessa se pitää käydä uudestaan paremmalla ajalla.
Viikonloppuna on taas esseiden kirjoittamista edessä ja yhden laajemman esseen materiaaleihin perehtymistä. Siinä saa taas kaksi päivää menemään vaivatta.

Aika on kortilla tällä hetkellä ja mieluummin panostan sitten niihin aineisiin joista on mahdollista saada hyviä arvosanoja ja päästä kokeesta läpi. Saattaa olla, että olen jo pudonnut kärryiltä tämän osalta, siinä tapauksessa se pitää käydä uudestaan paremmalla ajalla.
Viikonloppuna on taas esseiden kirjoittamista edessä ja yhden laajemman esseen materiaaleihin perehtymistä. Siinä saa taas kaksi päivää menemään vaivatta.
Nyt täytyy mennä nukkumaan. Olen ihan poikki.

Wednesday stress
Yesterday I found out that one of the assignment that have to be done by Friday night is very difficult. I just read the papers given us by the teacher and stared the assignment for over two hours. I could get started because I didn't know how.
Last night I dreamed about the assignment and woke up with a headache of a lifetime. It lasted almost the whole day. I have headaches pretty often these days.
Well, I have only about two months left and then the studies are over for a while.
Tomorrow we are taking our three furry friends to the vet. It's going to be a show. They don't like going to the vet and they hate their little baskets. Last time Piki was so stressed afterwards that she made a little turd in her basket.
After the vet I have to do the damned assignment. I'm sure I'm going to cry while doing it, it's so hard.
Ps. On Friday is Piki's birthday. She is going to be eight years old. I bought her presents today.

A Studious Sunday
Weekend is coming to it's end. Today I have been studying for tomorrows exam about East- and South-East Asian culture history. I won't be going to work tomorrow as I have to do the exam before 5 pm. There will be two questions that require essay answers approximately 2 pages long. I hope it goes well.
Yesterday we were walking in Nuuksio about three hours. We had a picnic in the forest. Afterwards we had sauna at my mom's.
Next week is going to be a busy week as well. I have to return three assignments and I also have to starts writing an essay for the Japanese culture course. It's going to be about "Toiseus, vieraus ja stereotyypit" Miten mielikuvat vieraasta kulttuurista ja sen edustajista vaikuttavat kulttuurien välisessä kohtaamistilanteessa?
- Miten vuorovaikutus toteutuu, kun eri kulttuureista tulevat ihmiset ja kokonaiset kansakunnat voivat olla mielikuvien "vankeja"?
In English: about stereotypes, when meeting people from foreign cultures and countries and the images people have about different cultures and how they affect on the interaction between people and nations.
This is a very interesting subject. We have been given material on which this essay must be based. This material includes writings about interaction and tension between Japan and US after the second world war.
I also have to write an 8 pages long essay by the 14th of March. For this essay we have been given about 30 different subjects to choose from.
This is all very interesting and I wish I had more time to study.

"Loma"viikko menossa
Nyt on hiihtoloma koulusta, mutta yhtään sen vähemmällä en ole tällä viikolla päässyt. Joka ilta töiden jälkeen olen istunut iltaa nenä kirjassa nimeltä Aasian kaupunkivaltioiden historia. Kirjasta ja luennoista on maanantaina tentti. Perjantaina pitää myös palauttaa ryhmässä tehtävä essee matkustamisesta Japanissa kautta aikojen. Tällä viikolla, kun ei ole niin paljon tekemistä oli myös tarkoitus tehdä yksi tehtävä, jonka palautus on ensi viikolla. Turhan optimistinen sitä on tämän ajan käytön kanssa, kun nämä illan tunnit eivät tunnu riittävän mihinkään.
Huomenna pitäisi mennä keilaamaan Christianin työkavereiden kanssa. Sinne ollaan jo ilmoittauduttu, joten on mentävä, vaikka opiskella pitäisi.
Kuntopyörää olen polkenut omaksi ilokseni, kun sellainen pari viikkoa sitten hankittiin. Hyvin kulkee ja pylly kiinteytyy. :0)
Yläkerrassa on taas menossa tyttöjen iltama. Yhtä kovaa huutavat kuin viime viikollakin. Saa nähdä meneekö yhtä myöhäänkin.

Jiihaa! Kvantitatiivisten menetelmien kolmas tehtävä tehty. Hirveässä hädässä vikana päivänä työpäivän päätteeksi, mutta tehty kuitenkin. Olen superväsynyt ja kurkkukin tuntui taas vaihteeksi kipeältä, kun odottelin 30 minuuttia bussia jääviimassa. Eipä nyt kuitenkaan ruikuteta enempää. It's Friday again!
It's Friday and I'm tired.
I just had Elina over and we had few glasses of wine. We had really nice time chatting about things.
I've managed to do my assignments on time although I have not been in a mood for studying. Today I wrote an essay about Japanese newspapers. I have to say that the issues what they write about are a bit different than what I'm used to reading about in Finnish or European newspapers. The newspapers give you a pretty disturbing image about Japan and Japanese life etc.
Tomorrow I have to study for an exam and on Sunday too. I also have to practice Chinese.
I think I can now reveal one of the big changes in my life. I have discussed about this so it is official now. I'm going to stop working for a while and concentrate on my studies. This is only going to happen in next August. I think it will be really good for me in many ways. I have been so worn out for these years. Last autumn was really difficult for me. So before I loose my heath I should really do something about this situation.
Thats about it now.
All I know now is that I'm going to sleep so good and so late tomorrow and in the morning I'm going to enjoy the Hesari (the official newspaper of Helsinki) and a delicious breakfast.

Happy Year of the Rat!
The new Chinese year has begun today and it's the year of the rat.
Chinese New Year is the longest and most important celebration in the Chinese calendar. The Chinese year 4706 begins on Feb. 7, 2008.
Chinese months are reckoned by the lunar calendar, with each month beginning on the darkest day. New Year festivities traditionally start on the first day of the month and continue until the fifteenth, when the moon is brightest. In China, people may take weeks of holiday from work to prepare for and celebrate the New Year.
A Ratty Year
Legend has it that in ancient times, Buddha asked all the animals to meet him on Chinese New Year. Twelve came, and Buddha named a year after each one. He announced that the people born in each animal's year would have some of that animal's personality. Those born in rat years tend to be leaders, pioneers, and conquerors. They are charming, passionate, charismatic, practical and hardworking. Gwyneth Paltrow, Ben Affleck, Samuel L. Jackson, William Shakespeare, and Mozart were all born in the year of the rat.
Fireworks and Family Feasts
At Chinese New Year celebrations people wear red clothes, decorate with poems on red paper, and give children "lucky money" in red envelopes. Red symbolizes fire, which according to legend can drive away bad luck. The fireworks that shower the festivities are rooted in a similar ancient custom. Long ago, people in China lit bamboo stalks, believing that the crackling flames would frighten evil spirits.
The Lantern Festival
In China, the New Year is a time of family reunion. Family members gather at each other's homes for visits and shared meals, most significantly a feast on New Year's Eve. In the United States, however, many early Chinese immigrants arrived without their families, and found a sense of community through neighborhood associations instead. Today, many Chinese-American neighborhood associations host banquets and other New Year events.
Chinese New Year ends with the lantern festival on the fifteenth day of the month. Some of the lanterns may be works of art, painted with birds, animals, flowers, zodiac signs, and scenes from legend and history. People hang glowing lanterns in temples, and carry lanterns to an evening parade under the light of the full moon.
In many areas the highlight of the lantern festival is the dragon dance. The dragon—which might stretch a hundred feet long—is typically made of silk, paper, and bamboo. Traditionally the dragon is held aloft by young men who dance as they guide the colorful beast through the streets. In the United States, where the New Year is celebrated with a shortened schedule, the dragon dance always takes place on a weekend. In addition, many Chinese-American communities have added American parade elements such as marching bands and floats.
