A Sleepless Night
We picked Nika up from the animal hospital yesterday, where she was operated on Wednesday. They had to remove her kidney and a part of her small intestine. The reason for this was that they discovered a tumor that was attached to kidney and to the small intestine. They could not remove the tumor from the kidney without an massive bleeding, so the kidney had to be taken out also.
We had a sleepless night here. Everything appeared to be allright. Nika was lively and ate well in the evening. We were not supposed to give her pain medication until this morning. Everything changed as we took her out. She cried loud in the yard and we thought that she had hurt herself, but then we discovered that she tried to pee and it hurt her. She tried to pee three times but it hurt her and she was afraid and in pain. There was pee all over the yard and we were in shock. We called to the hospital to ask if this was normal. They said that it depends on the position and that the wound is sore. We called there the second time and asked if we could give her the pain medication and they said it was fine, because it was midnight.
Nika wanted to sleep in the bathroom and we put there towels for her. Of course Pörri had to have a fit the same night. She hadn't had one for many months. While having the seizure she is out of it and wonders a round in the apartment. She tried all the time to go to the bathroom where Nika was. Nika is afraid of her. At the moment she is afraid of everything.
Poor Nika, it is just agonizing to see her suffer. She doesn't know whats going on and we can't do anything. We have called the hospital three times now. This weekend is going to be stressfull but I think she will be feeling better in a few days. We have to remove the bandage from her surgical wound today and I'm already having a major stress about that.
I can't understand why one dog has to go through so much bad stuff. Like the pancreas thing and her traumatic passt in Russia would not have been enough.

Nika selviytyi leikkauksesta
Lääkäri soitti juuri, että Nika voi paremmin. Se on pissannut eli jäljelle jäänyt munuainen toimii. Se joutuu olemaan vielä yhden yön sairaalassa. Tänään sitä saisi mennä katsomaan vähäksi aikaa, mutta emme tiedä onko se sille hyvä vai huono asia. Se on tosi arka-parka ollut siellä, mutta kiltti. Voi olla, että jos se näkee meidät ja sitten lähdetään pois sille tulee entistä ahdistuneempi olo.
Huomenna ainakin näemme sen, kun haemme sen kotiin.

Nika sairaalassa kriittisessä tilassa
Nika leikattiin tänään ja se on kriittisessä tilassa. Seuraavat 12 tuntia ovat ratkaisevat. Siltä jouduttiin poistamaan munuainen ja pala ohutsuolea, koska kasvain oli kiinnittynyt niihin. Nyt tutkitaan onko kasvain paha- vai hyvälaatuinen.
Itse olen flunssassa ja kuumeessa, eikä ole kovin hyvät fiilikset juuri nyt.

Busy as a bee
Ensi viikolla on myös paljon tekemistä muutenkin kuin töissä. Saamme vieraita Saksasta perjantaina ja äidin 65-v. syntymäpäiväjuhlat ovat lauantaina. Ennen juhlia meidän on tarkoitus viedä Uta ja Nadine Porvooseen. Sunnuntaina olemme puolestamme menossa Tallinnaan heidän kanssaan.
Olen tässä myös miettinyt ilmoittautumista avoimen ympäristötieteen perusopintoihin. Opinnot ovat lähes välttämättömiä työn takia, mutta kyllä ne muutenkin kiinnostavat.
Nikalla on taas ollut terveysongelmia. Olimme sen kanssa Viikissä pari viikkoa sitten kuumeen ja ripulin takia. Sille varattiin aika jatkotutkimuksiin, joissa se oli tänään koko päivän.
Sisätautiosastolla se tutkittiin kunnolla. Epäiltiin, että syy on haiman vajaatoiminnassa ja siitä johtuvista sivuoireista. Lääkäri päätti tutkimusten aikana tehdä Nikalle ultraäänitutkimuksen, koska se aristi vatsaansa. Onneksi se tehtiin, sillä sen vasemman munuaisen kohdalla on massamainen muutos. Lääkäri epäilee, että muutos on paise tai joku muu reaktio munasarjan ligatointikohdassa. Eli toisin sanoen seurausta steriloinnista, joka sille tehtiin Venäjällä. Kuume ei siis ole liittynyt haiman vajaatoimintaan vaan on ollutkin seurausta tästä toisesta vaivasta.
Nika menee vatsaontelon avaukseen 8. syyskuuta. Toivottavasti sen vaivat helpottavat leikkauksen jälkeen.

Our new home
The past week we have been very busy renovating our new home as well as moving here. Infact I have worked from early morning till late evening. I was so tired yesterday that I felt I needed one more week holidays. Too bad I have no more holidays and today was my first day at work.
Still we have stuff to do here, so I'm only able to take few photos from the areas that are finished. There are still lot of stuff that have not found their place and two walls to wallpaper. Tonight I've not been doing anything. I'm too tired.
